About Us

MCA
In the spring of 2010, the Office of Academic Enhancement partnered with Columbia College Chicago’s Center for Community Arts Partnerships (CCAP) to submit a grant to the U.S Department of Education entitled “Transforming Education through the Arts and Media” (or TEAM). TEAM connects Columbia College media artists with CPS teachers to create units of study that weave together academics, arts, and technology. Based on the nationally recognized arts integration model of CCAP’s Project AIM, the activities of this grant will be centered on partnership building, nurturing teacher and student skills in the arts and media, and the development of replicable curriculum that can be disseminated to other CPS teachers. May Community Academy’s 7th grade students are exploring the notion of Austin being a food desert. Students are working with a journalism professor from Columbia College as well as a media production specialist. Students respond to current event related topics on the TEAM blog. Soon they will conduct a survey about nutrition and food services within the Austin Community. The project will continue into next year.
